Keep yourself occupied
OK so in my case I kept myself occupied with a Playstation3. That's why I called this the PS3 Diet - it's what did it for me. In reality of course you can do anything. Build models. Knit. Read books. Work on your car. Paint. Play with your kids. Take your partner out for a walk or a drive somewhere. Do some gardening. The key here is once you've had your mini dinner, you must keep yourself occupied. If you don't, you'll start to graze and being undoing any good you've done with sensible food choices.
Don't snack
If you can stick to what I've outlined so far, you'll find yourself getting hungry about 11am every day. Fight the urge to snack, or if you must have something, make sure it's good for you. Don't grab a packet of chips - eat some celery sticks or carrot sticks - something to give you a little boost, but something that isn't loaded with sugar and fat. This means, of course, some forward planning. You need to bring this sort of stuff with you if you work in office, otherwise you'll be tempted by the office vending machine. If you're trying to lose weight, the office vending machine might as well be Satan. Just don't use it.
So it's all about cutting down your food intake?
Portion control is most of this diet, yes. Don't over-eat. You'll read that everywhere else but it's true. There is no miracle pill that will make you lose weight, and surgery is a vanity option for the instant-gratification crowd. In the long term it doesn't work unless you change your underlying behaviour.
Partner support
Of course to truly get this diet to work, you need the support of your partner or family. If they're prepared to help keep temptation away from you, it certainly helps. In my case, my wife started having larger lunches so she could have smaller dinners. That meant I wasn't faced with my wife eating a plate full of dinner whilst I was sucking down a ceral bar. But if you're properly serious about this, you need to add a little exercise into the mix.
